SAMMYRIDES, Day 2

Day 2 was a busy one.  The riders rode from Tempe, Az., to Apache Junction, Az.  It took most of the day as the trail was a rough one and they found themselves having to ride an additional five miles to get back on track.  Arriving at the Best Western around 3:15, showers and a change of clothes had to be quickly done as we were expected at the Elks Club in Apache Junction to meet and greet many of the members and a wonderful group of ladies who belong to the Soroptimists International Organization.
We made our 4 o'clock meeting on time, where we were then greeted warmly by wonderful and friendly people who made the four of us feel very much at home.  A delicious pot luck dinner hit the spot, especially for the riders, as they had been riding all day, with no stop for lunch!  Michael Libenson spoke about how SammyRides came about, followed by myself, who shared additional information regarding pediatric cancer and our fundraising efforts.
This group of people were truly gracious and extremely generous and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for reaching out to us in such a warm and caring way.
We have a tough day tomorrow beginning at the Chamber of Commerce early in the morning.  We hope we'll have some resident riders who will put in a few miles with us!  In the eve., another  meet and greet will be taking place in Superior, Az at the Superior Presbyterian Church.  We're looking forward to participating in their pot luck dinner and spreading the word about the need for supporting pediatric cancer research.  For all of us, meeting the residents in various communities is something we enjoy very much, and based on the friendliness and warmth we've received at this point,  the people of Arizona have made this journey something we will always remember with deep appreciation and gratitude.
It's not going to be an easy day of riding....mountains are waiting!!!  I expect our own riders at the end of the day will have some sore muscles!
Looking forward to posting more pictures in the next day or two..
From Apache Junction, Az. my best wishes to everyone.....Lois
