DAY 10 SAMMYRIDES EL PASO, TEXAS (Fixed)

We entered Texas with the American Flag sent by Lt. Col James Challender in honor of Sammy Rotman

This morning we left New Mexico heading towards El Paso, Texas.   A short ride...about 28 miles, but one where all we saw were literally thousands of cows, everywhere!!!!  During a short stop, we decided the scenes were enough to make us all become vegetarians....but as dinner is gradually approaching, the consensus is to head towards another steak house or better yet, a Mexican restaurant.  So much for our short lived decision regarding what we eat!
In spite of the fact that tomorrow is our second lay day, we will be traveling to the Providence Hospital in El Paso,  to visit with kids undergoing treatment for cancer.  As always, we will deliver to them SammyRides shirts, hero medals, and letters written by kids from the elementary schools around the area of Sun City Center, Florida.  That is something we are really looking forward to.  The staff has also received that wonderful 30 pound box of Tootsie Rolls.....well deserved for the incredible care the doctors and nurses provide for these wonderful kids.
The weather has changed a great deal over the past day or two.  We can feel how the temperatures are rising as we approach the Texas area and not the cold morning hours we have been used to since leaving Arizona.  The other thing we have noticed has been how dry it continues to be, so much so, that I made a trip over to Walmart to get ChapSticks for all four of us.  Yes, my EMT duties continue on as I watch the medical needs of these special riders!!!
Despite all this, the news regarding Japan has been on our minds constantly and our prayers go out to the thousands of people going through this horrific ordeal.
Until tomorrow, Michael, Mike Brown, Adolf and myself send our love and best wishes to you all.....Lois
